the monthly mosaic

To start my year of being 'inspired', I have something to share that I am hoping you will join in on too. Last year I created a group on flickr called 'the Monday Mosaic', which you can read about in archived blog posts.

I have been feeling kind of neglectful (is that a word?google?yes it is!) of the group  & wanted to give it a revamp in 2012. I would love to invite you & your friends to join in too. All you have to do is get a free flickr account & follow my blog so you can link up to the mosaic merry-go-round on my blog once a month. I wrote the following info to the current members of the original 'monday mosaic' group which provides a few more details.

2012 New Year/New Inspiration

Hello Everyone,

In 2011, I fell in love with Instagram & I created this group as a place to come & share our weekends in the mosaic form, whether by phone or regular camera & I thank you so much, for coming here to be a part of it, I enjoyed looking at all your mosaics.

It's now 2012 & even though the group was only created for fun (& deadline free), I felt like I kind of neglected it in some ways towards the end of year. I found that it was a bit of a challenge to try & keep up with it when the year started to get hectic & I had joined in with a lot of other projects to grow in my photography.

Some of you may have chosen a theme word to stay with you for 2012. One of mine is 'inspired'. I am hoping that I will find more ways to be inspired & to inspire in 2012. I would love this group to be a bit more of a project than just random pics of our weekends (fun as they are). A place where we can come to grow & be inspired by each other. I hope that you will want to participate & put your inspiration forward & grow together in our creativity.

Thinking about time, I thought that it would be a good starting point to make it a monthly mosaic, using a colour theme based on monthly colours for this year & maybe change it up in years to come. Whilst searching for inspiration, I thought about alot of colours & looked at different charts but I really liked this chart. I thought we could use the healing properties of the stones eg. health & commitment from the January stone garnet to inspire us with something to capture or be inspired by for the colour for the month. I also came up with 3 things we could add to our mosaics, you could choose to do just one or you may find you want to do all three. Its up to you. To simplify things, at the start of the month I will post the details for that month:

January
colour - dark red
theme - health & commitment

1. capture colour of the month images that represent the theme for that month.

2. write a few words to accompany your image about the theme for that month. it may be something that inspired you, was relevant to you, or something you want to share for that month.

3. a quote to accompany your mosaic.

Each month I will set up a linky post on my blog to accompany each months posts & to follow along & comment on the other members mosaics. The one below is a participation link & in the 1st week of the next month & susequent months, i will do a linky post for everyone to add their mosaics to.

I am hoping that you will all enjoy the change to this group & be interested in participating. I am also hoping that we will have a bunch of newcomers to join in with us, please share & invite your friends, the more the merrier.

I would also love to hear from you. If you have anything you want to share in this group, please join in & contribute to the discussion thread.

Happy 2012

  3. The monthly mosaic sounds great thanks for taking the time to organise it.I had a bit of trouble with the linky tool when I signed up. The number 5 entry was adjusted and is correct but I thought it would have replaced the other not added an extra entry. Sorry about that I hope you can delete the extra one if not delete both and I will re do it.
